Dr. Wiltowski has been a student of reaction engineering for past 17 years. His particular research interest is in heterogeneous catalysis, solid state and materials engineering, reactor design, environmental engineering and pollution control. He conducts his investigations on a variety of materials including supported metals, oxides, and sulfides. One of his current research projects is an investigation of VOC oxidation using the regenerative autothermal catalytic systems using both noble and transition metal oxides catalysts. The research combines experimental measurements with theoretical analyses of reaction mechanisms in order to better understand and improve the processes. The experimental techniques include steady and unsteady (transient) state kinetics measurements, temperature programmed methods, and the products identification. This application is presently tested at the semiconductor plants. A second active project involves the photocatalytic oxidation and simultaneous filtration of the indoor air. The potential applications of this project include the hazardous waste detoxification as well as solid particular removal from the indoor air. Another important application of his studies is in the area of environmental engineering and reactor design which utilizes the novel rotary catalytic reactor for the abatement of gaseous pollutants such as VOC, NOx, and SO2. This unique design will combine the autothermal mode of operation with the possibility of controlling the contact time between the catalyst's surface and reacting species.

At present, Dr. Wiltowski teaches classes in Thermodynamics and Mass Transfer Processes. His teaching experience also includes Process Dynamics and Control, Instrumental Analysis for Chem. Eng., Chemical Reactors Design, Air Pollution Control, Materials Chemistry and Engineering, and Kinetics and Catalysis.

He has 30 publications, 21 presentations at professional meetings, 4 chapters in professional books, and 3 patents.
