"I hade a pleasant and interesting period of my life at the mining department. I came far away from a small cold country the little Kingdom of Sweden but all staff and students created an genuine atmosphere where I always felt welcome. The classes were well represented with different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, I got to know many new things. The department gave me special knowledge in the field of coal mines and quarries, which complemented my previous mining background from home with hard rock mining applications. And I also got the chance to go to the SME convention in Salt Lake City and Denver, and to the MineExpo 2000 in LasVegas with Caterpillar Inc. I had a great time in the USA."

"I really had a good time during my pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering at SIUC from 2002-2005. My appreciation goes to my advisor, Dr. E. Ben Kroeger, my dissertation committee, and all staff working in the mining engineering department. Also, I cherish the friendship with all my friends, instructors, and students in classes."

"There are many memorable moments and let me share a few. As a Research Assistant I was elated when Dr Mohanty presented to me a copy of the journal that published our work. It was my first publication in an international journal. A year later I got an opportunity to present my paper in front of subject matter experts. It was a great experience for me. The day I defended my Master’s thesis was very special. Dr Wiltowski and Dr Kroeger were my other graduate committee members and they highly appreciated my work. Graduation day was most memorable. Earlier that day I was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student award from Mining Engineering. Dr Chugh had arranged a special cake for the graduates and it was an awesome gesture from him. Later, I received my degree and among the first to congratulate me was Dr Hassan Sevim, with a hug and a pat on the back. Even today I feel so proud and happy rejoicing those days".
